The SABC Board, led by Dr Ben Ngubane, unveiled the organisation's 2010 FIFA World Cup broadcast plan and corporate plan in Parliament today, Friday, 19 March 2010. 
JOHANNESBURG: Control Room, global music events producer, and FIFA, announced today, Wednesday, 17 March 2010, the first group of musicians confirmed to perform at the 2010 FIFA World Cup Kick-off Celebration Concert. Global artists will perform at the event taking place the night before the first match at 8pm (GMT+2) on 10 June at the newly-renovated Orlando Stadium in Soweto, Johannesburg. 
Saturday's SuperSport Super 14 fixture between the Bulls and the Highlanders will see Vodacom's on-field advertising being used in ‘virtual' format. The move is primarily to appease FIFA, the governing body of world football, which is concerned about the damaging effect of painted signage on World Cup pitches. 
2010 fever is spreading across all areas of life: Mini is offering everyone the chance to brand their cars with free flag covers for car mirror caps, people can go online and create a virtual makaraba over their photos, and Port Elizabeth's Oceanarium has a huge Coca-Cola mural on its entrance to welcome visitors to football and fish. 
NEWSWATCH: It appears that FIFA will be the major financial beneficiary of 2010 while South Africa, the host country, will not only carry a ‘disproportionate share' of the financial burden for staging the event, but also see fewer economic benefits than were expected, according to Business Report. 
JOHANNESBURG: MTN, 2010 FIFA World Cup sponsor, has unveiled a campaign that aims to support an African winner in the upcoming event. MTN plans to roll out its Africa United campaign across the continent, comprising communication across print, broadcast and online channels. 
NEWSWATCH: The Chinese company that was contracted to produce the 2010 figurine, Zakumi, has been forced to cease work after FIFA's Global Brands Group withdrew its approval of the Chinese company, which, it seems, was paying its workers the equivalent of about R23 a day, reports Times Live.
