Carte Blanche's Susan Puren has won the CNN African Journalist of the Year Award for her documentary on a Ugandan child girl-soldier known as "China". 500 journalists from 26 African nations took part in the competition. Three other South African journalists to win prizes were Sara Blecher of the SABC, Angie Kapelianis, also of the SABC, and the Mail and Guardian's Khadija Magardie.
