Afrikaans daily newspaper Beeld, the official media partner of the Beeld Children's Fund (Kinderfonds), has revealed that a total of over R14 million was contributed to charity between 1994 and 2005. The fund was established in 1977 to enable disadvantaged children from Mayfair in Johannesburg to enjoy seaside vacations, none of whom had ever been on holiday or seen the ocean. Today, the fund is a pillar of hope and opportunity for thousands of underprivileged South African children.
