Fashionable support for breast cancer awareness
Design for Life is a breast cancer campaign using fashion in the form of limited edition Hip-Hop t-shirts to raise awareness of the disease affecting a majority of women worldwide. The campaign is spearheaded by Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe, the director of the Motsepe Foundation and chairperson of African Fashion International. The initial target is to raise R1 million by selling 10 000 t-shirts nationally to fund a mobile screening unit that will travel on a rota basis through rural communities, offering lifesaving information and teaching breast self-examination skills to women. The campaign will culminate on Friday, 31 October 2008, for a ‘Casual Friday', where men and women who have purchased the Design for Life t-shirts are asked to wear them to work in a communal show of solidarity.
