The Channel O Africa awards at Joburg City Hall last night (11 Oct) were a shocker! VIP guests were tunnelled into the entrance from the car park and had to queue for at least 45mins/hour to gain access.

Then when you finally arrived in the hall all the chairs - which were of the plastic school variety - were already taken. If there were 250 chairs for guests it was a lot. At least another 100 guests milled around as there was nowhere else to sit.

An alcohol sponsor didn't think to walk along the very long queues waiting to get in and offer drinks - after 30 mins of standing I would gladly have bought the bottle!

Together with a quite a few other guests, we left as it had gone from embarrassing to plain appalling.

The event organisers deserve to never work again - this could have been a great function in a venue which lends itself to red carpet glitz and glam - instead it was a shambles!
