The new South Africa is now very much part of the international community and has an important role to play both internationally and as a leading nation on the African continent.
International competitiveness and trade are becoming increasingly critical for the future growth and development of South Africa, upon which the well-being and livelihood of every South African depends.
In order to facilitate this, all South Africans need to work together and harmonise to develop a sense of national pride that will transcend individual ethnic and cultural group differences for the common good.
To achieve this, it is essential for all South Africans to learn to communicate with one another better and the first step is to understand some of the important cultural differences - the norms, values and customs - of the major culture groups in South Africa.
