An introduction to Intellectual Property for copywriters, artists, illustrators, web designers, writers, photographers, musicians and entrepreneurs.
Intellectual Property can be an extremely valuable commodity, but many people - writers, musicians, illustrators and entrepreneurs - have little idea how to protect and get full value for their creative output. Although Intellectual Property laws like copyright, patents and trade marks exist, it is difficult to know how they create rights and how they can be violated. The law is complicated at the best of times, but even more so when it is in a specialist area like Intellectual Property. But help is it hand for anyone who thinks they will benefit from knowing a bit about this area of law, whether they are in the written or visual arts, SME sector or just curious to learn a bit more. A course has been designed to educate creative people, rather than legal specialists. It covers the basics and alerts creatives to the applications of Intellectual Property in their working world. It is targeted at musicians, artists, illustrators, web designers, writers, photographers, copywriters and entrepreneurs who have no (or very little) idea of how to protect their creativity and intellectual products. The course explains the basics of patents, copyright, trade marks and unlawful competition. By the end of the course, participants will understand the differences between the types of rights, their relevance to different types of creativity and how to assert ownership. Participants will also know what to look out for so that their rights are not infringed, and that they do not infringe others' rights. The closing date for registration and payment is Friday August 8.
