The course is designed to give students an introduction to sound engineering, by laying down a foundation of theory, as well as giving students the practical know how.
Lectures will be given in the ProTools Sound Lab, equipped with Mac workstations, each with their own ProTools sound card.
The course will give students a basic theoretical and practical foundation in the theory of sound, studio set-up, recording, mixing, effects and processors, and basic post-production in ProTools.
Students will have basic assessments and projects to complete during the six-week course.
Course outliine: • Theory of Sound and Acoustics • Microphones • Studio layout, signal flow and mixing desks. • Basic recording techniques • Dynamic Signal Processors (EQ, compression, gating & limiting) • Effects Signal Processors (Reverb, Delay etc) • Basic mixing techniques • Basic post-production in ProTools
Admission requirements: • Matric; Or Grade 10, basic computer skills.
Job Opportunities: Graduates will be able to setup their own home studio, work as an assistant engineer at a commercial studio, record demo albums or record and produce their own work, or work as an engineer for a live audio company. Students may also find work at a radio or TV station, working as an assistant to an engineer.
