Diversity reins supreme at this year's festival with dance styles including hip-hop, classical ballet, contemporary, modern, African and Spanish.
Over a hundred dancers from around the Cape Town are hard at work rehearsing and perfecting the performances that will entertain city audiences at the forthcoming Baxter Dance Festival. The line-up includes professional companies performing works by established choreographers, as well as up and coming young dancers from Peninsula dance studios who will be showcasing works by emerging choreographers.
Dance enthusiasts can also look forward to screening of a superb selection of dance films flown to South Africa directly from Cinedans, Europe's premier dance film festival. Held annually in Amsterdam, Cinedans features breathtaking cinematography from a new generation of dance film-makers from around the world. Aside from performance pieces, dance documentaries give viewers some insight into how internationally renowned choreographers approach the process of dance-making.
Bookings can be made at the Baxter or through Computicket. For full details of the Festival offerings visit: www.baxter.co.za
