Computer and videogames are everywhere - but few know, what it takes to develop a game and if there might be a job opportunity in that industry for them.
Game Design Preparation - Seminar
A lot of people have ideas for games. But how can you make sure that your game really works? How do you begin writing the game design document? Game Design writing is a complex task and, because of that, has to be a very structured effort. This seminar will teach you to take the first steps towards turning your game idea into a working game design document. At the end of the seminar you will have learned to plan your game from start to finish and make sure that you have a first working concept draft you can elaborate on without going into a wrong direction.
Storytelling in Game Design - Seminar
Good storylines are as important for games as they are for movies or novels. But even being a good movie script writer or author of books does not mean you will succeed creating a storyline for a narrative game. During this seminar you will learn why storytelling in games is different than what is known from movies and books. You will analyse storytelling games, learn about the new possibilities for storytelling and the differences between the various game genres. The workshop gives you the opportunity to train your skills and use your new knowledge by creating a story-based game idea for yourself. In combination with the "Game Design Preparation" seminar this seminar will give you a great start into the world of game design.
The seminar will be held by Lars Espeter from Schwerin, Germany. As a game designer and producer he has been working in the games industry for twelve years now. In 2007 his mobile game Starshiptroopers: Roughnecks was awarded the title Best Mobile Action Game by a German developer and his edutainment game Mathemagus made it into the Top 15 casual games titles in the same event. Lars Espeter is the manager of the GameDesign Faculty of the Design Academy Schwerin, Germany, where he is also giving seminars in game theory and game design.
