This two-day course for editors and sub-editors of print publications tackles how to avoid the various forms that prejudice takes in media texts.
Participants will learn how prejudice works in language and develop solutions geared to their publications. Among areas that the course will pay attention to are stereotyping, racism and sexism, word usage and headlines.
Participants will develop an eye for problematic content and learn how to edit out harmful assumptions and bias. They will also develop overall language skill and the ability to produce inoffensive and attention-grabbing copy.
Target market: Editors and sub-editors of print media publications.
The course aims to provide a practical understanding of how sexism, racism, homophobia and other prejudice works in language - and how to eradicate it.
