I agree with your comment. I have been a listener for a long time - since Martin Bailie days. When Mike Wills was axed, I gave it a few weeks - but the morning show during the week is pathetic. Over weekends, I used to enjoy Tom London - but Allan Barnard is awful - past his sell by date. I tried writing to Cape Talk, but just got standard responses. Now the only person left who is worth listening to is John Maytham - I listen to hi while driving home - otherwise - Cape Talk has had it!
Mediocrity seems to be the name of the game at Cape Talk, except for a few talented, witty, knowledgedable individuals who have been allowed to stay. The culling first of the brilliant Mike Wills and then the witty, perfect-for-weekends Tom London, has done it for me. At least Jhb still has Tom but how, oh how, can one of the best all-round radio journalists/commentators/news people such as Mike be seemingly lost to the airwaves??!?! It is disgusting that he is only used when someone has a lurgy or is on leave. His replacement is adequate, but i want more than that on the crucial 6-9 slot.
I know Mike is virtually off the air now - a great loss, I wish he would surface again somewhere - either on radio or TV - but Tom is still on the air over the weekends in Gauteng. Can we please not have him back?
Overall - Cape Talk is not the station is was a few years ago.
I am avid CapeTalk listener. JohnM and LisaC my alltime faves, with Leeb's Monday labour slot tops! I daresay that the radio station might think of bringing the VoiceSearch back to source new talent, for there are potentially audience-pulling people out here, working towards that one chance!!
I don't care who the presenters are, they all seem to have a great deal to say about nothing. I have a theory that the size of the brain is inversely proportional to the size of the mouth! Just shut up and play the oldies! And if possible move to the FM band. Appologies to the millions I have offended.
The only time I listen to Cape Talk is on Saturday and Sunday. It's fantastic music. I don't want to listen to people phoning in complaining, that's just depressing. Keep those Golden Oldies playing.
I enjoy Cape talk radio very much indeed during the week and naturally Barry Ronge and Kate Turkington as well as Sat early magazine programme. However the long music stretch especially on Saturdays is very boring for me and I miss the discussions etc. I am not alone in my views!
Please,Golden Oldies (if you must) for a limited time even though it is not a music programme. What about that "auction" programme on Sat late mornings, book readings etc. I have contact you many time re this!
