Comments on PR companies must be more selective in what they send out

You have not deleted  by  Muhari
Looking at the date(31 Aug 2005) of your article, it seems you are 30 days away from deleting that email. But I support what you're saying.

suggestion  by  karen
as with all big attachments this is a problem. free tip from clickonline for senders - upload your big files to yousendit.com then the recipient can choose to download the file at their leisure.
media sales people do it too with rate card files.

But Bruce.....  by  Koos
this is a typical complaint of South African media but the bottom line is that 9/10 south african hacks have an extremely mickey-mouse set up in terms of their web connectivety. Thirteen megs is NOT a really big file Bruce, unless of course you're using a 56k fax modem, which is a bit amateurish isn't it? Get yourself a better connection so that you can appreciate the quality of bigger files.

ProjectProofing.com
That is why projectproofing.com was created. It allows for online proofing to eliminate the need for bulky emails, poor quality faxes, or time consuming visits to displays proofs.

Check it out at www.projectproofing.com

Speaking as a journo  by  Nic
My issue is not really with pictures. In fact, if I don't get a picture with a release, I throw my toys.

But the quality of the NEWS and photography coming through is horrendous. Who do you have to sleep with to let the PR industry know that a company winning an award IS NOT NEWS.

It's what we call, a marketing wank.

That's pathetic  by  Rob Dickens
It's highly indicative of the level of PR in this country. Frankly, the industry is a load of bullshit. Almost all PR companies offer no form of measurability. Companies lap up their crappy sales pitches and indubitably get the same old "over promise, under deliver".

If I was an editor and some idiot sent me a unsolicited 13Mb picture I would contact their client and tell them exactly what a good job the PR company was doing ensuring the company does not get exposure.

I think deleting it is was very tame of you. Get some balls and fight back. Demand what you need, when you need it and don't take anything else. They will soon learn.

As to PR companies, this should be S.O.P really. If you have pics, then suggest that they are available on request. You can even give a description of the pic: CEO headshot or whatever. Then as has been mentioned, upload that sucker and send the link. Sheesh. Are we technophobes here?
