...such as which firm/agency it is, but salaries in Joburg are generally much higher than in Cape Town (sometimes double!). Go to http://www.adtalent.co.za/survey.html for a basic idea, and don't be discouraged by the naysayers. I earn less here, but at least I can afford to share a large apartment with my boyfriend (not one tiny room in Earl's Court like we used to), eat out at a great seafood restaurant once a week, and suntan 8 months of the year. Good luck!
Yes, your lack of pigmentation will certainly severely hamper your progress. It is extremely distressing and makes one feel unwelcomed in your own country. A country you helped shape. Head further south dude. Areas of Oz are turning into neighborhoods reminescent of the high standards of days gone by. - before anyone pounces; that is not a rascist reference, but rather one which points towards the extreme dumbing down of our culture to accomodate the lowest common denominator rather than challenging people to evolve and grow.
It's so sad to witness the talent drain. And judging from the typos/grammar in some of the comments, the standard of writing has reached minus zero.I have just copped a lot of shit because of the Proteas (bring back the Springboks). The quota system is evil and the TOKENS merely promote Apartheid in reverse. Its happening in sport and its happening in business. South Africa has so many consultants one wonders what happened to the corporate PR's. I used to work for a major South African company but they closed down their PR department because of Affirmative Action. I am really heart broken as I am passionate about South Africa but in the current circumstances I will tough it out in Australia. When merit becomes a criteria I might return!
I am in Melbourne. Its like Cape Town (Sydney being like Johburg).Life here is pretty laid back.Yes we do have our crime .Its drug related. Drugs are a big problem. If you want a family environment look at Adelaide. The Gold Coast is like Durban. For jobs look at mycareer.com.au Best of luck
In 2004 this Dutchie moved to South Africa to work for one of the newspapers being published in Cape Town. I decided to stay; loving this part of the world and thinking and assuming that I - with my experience, a bachelor in journalism and two Master degrees - would be able to make in no time.
Well, I guess I was wrong. I was (and still am) surprised by the low salaries. For instance, I currently earn what I was paid in Holland, where I was working two days a week at the news desk of a national newspaper. The difference is that I am working full time now. At least I have a job now, because it was bloody damn hard to find a position.
Anyway, just a question: what are - except for Bizcomm - the best websites to advertize your freelance skills?
