There are indeed various levels through which the article went before being published. It was not stopped at any of these, which leads one to two possible conclusions:
1. The editor & other folk involved did not do thier jobs, or felt the article was ok, (Which is was) in which case the editor should have been fired two.
2. The powers that be knew there would be an issue about the article and used it as an excuse to get rid of him.
