Comments on What is Johnnic doing to Sowetan?

Just trying to understand?
Are you saying that the Sowetan is making use of sensational headlines to attract readers and that it's not working? Just trying to be clear on the matter before I comment.

Scumbags That's All That Is  by  "GBH"
I think you you have the right to your opinion, and millions of Sun readers dis-agree with you, I have found Sowetan to be party politics, you cannot say anything about ANC if you do all the Juorno's will make a point to hunt and find you, and bring you to justice, they are anti, IFP, DP, NP, and most of all they claim to be anti Americans, but guest what they wakeup in the morning, wash with, Lux, eat Kellogs, have lunch @ Mcdonald, watch NY undercover listen to R Kelly....wear FUBU oh what about NIKE.
gbh

You sure know a lot
Sounds like you really know all the journos at the Sowetan. And you do realise that content is determined by editors and journos are assigned stories to that effect?

Scumbags  by  jamboree
Funny how people are always quick to point out that people are anti........ i mean i am a journo and i have found that in most cases people are quick to label us as supporting the ANC. it is unfortunate that we have to watch NY undercover because 1) we cannot afford to watch repeats on DSTV, so we stick to SABC that repeats everything thus SABCrepeats. so instead of watching Yizo Yizo repeats we watch NY undercover and no we buy Stone cherry, Craig Native etc. Anti American not Anti Bush definately cos it makes sense!

Sowetan  by  jamboree
i think it is looking good,Fresh On YFM said that it is looking good as well - he spoke to the sub editor who reassured us that it's just improved on its look but that it will not publish the gorilla rapes woman story type of thing like Daily Sun. chill!sowetan's just keeping it real

Ok Jamboree! I heard you!  by  Betty Davis
I'm not sure what do mean anti.... Bush everywhere I go I hear Black South African whinening about Americans this or that, what surprises me is they all I want to look like Oprah Winfrey, or Denzel and the works, they even mess up their phrases, why can't they just accept that they cannot be like them and be themself.

Sorry Betty, but I dissagree with you on this point...  by  Ugly(D)
What do you know about being urself.... People are what they want to be and if you're not happy with Mandoza looking like Denzel, then that's ur opinion... Surely the verb to be, is influenced by the Environment and outside forces...Stop Labelling people, surely part of being urself is not worrying about what other people are like... And as for those Black South African that you speak of, is this in general, or are they the ones you hang around with in Sandton? Cause there are lots of Black South African out there. Have you been to any of the Rural areas, they don't have such privileged as urself to complain or Label people. What about the White South Africans that are Anti-Bush, what you gonna tell me them? Any way... lets stick to the Forum... Now i have forgotten what this debate was about...

I think you missed the point ugly D!  by  Betty davis
The point here was about Daily Sun, and I felt that in a way, it is telling people about thing no one want to know off since all this is on our door step, but we can poke others eyes, and yet they emulate the very people they claim to be hating, I have no problem with you wanting to look like Haley Barry or one of those famous Americans, the problem I have is hypocrisy, you cannot tell me that you hate them when you wake up and you brush your teeth with Colgate, wash with Lux apply Revlon.. and drink coke, all I'm saying is be yourself....if this is how you feel then don't watch Third Watch, rather Emzini wezintsizwa, or muvhango.

Eish, here we go again!  by  MO-
I still dont get it, what does Sowetan 'watered-down' content have to do with blacks wanting to be white?
I personally have not seen any diff with the new Sowetan except a lot more global news.

Also if we have to get into that now tedious debate about 'being black and blackness', hasnt this been proved already to be a deeply complex issue. The problem I have Betty Davis is that blk mense keep comparing themselves against each other in some sick competition to see who is more black/authentic.
This has even been spotted by many business ppl who now position their products on this, promising to elevate one to a greater level of 'blackness' if they use their products-eg. white-owned Magents, uPakile, even Stone Cherrie etc
To add to this fruitless debate, if ppl dont use Lux and other imported goods, what should they use? Face reality, these are the products on the shop shelves- used because they are needed and accessible....nothing to do with race or loyalty to ones race (as if we all signed some code of allegiance to our given races at any point).

Now pls, discussions of that will benefit us not tear us apart......I think lets not just focus on Sowetan, what about Ymag which promised informative, youth related news and to unearth talent in all respects- what happened there?

Moving with the times  by  VVolf
I feel that the changes in the Sowetan are, as much as some may not like it, the only way the paper will continue to survive. With the release of the Daily Sun the circulation of the Sowetan has drop by almost 80%... Yip, 80%!

It is a case of adapt or die...

brought changes in the paper(devolpment)  by  tison
A stakeholder is always critisised of changes that is being resoluted.Hence we know Jonnic had uplifted the the papers image in its market, for the coalition of relations that were not handled by the paper. If we look at how the paper was structured it will set the difference to know.Opportunities raised up panctualy by conveying segments in a paper. As a youth Jonnic implemented the job market whereby the culture of paper became strong. It has a reputation that is corperate to the puplic.

what do you know... GHB?  by  pass...
i worked for the Sowetan as a reporter for a long time, and sory GBH, no one is pro-ANC and anti-the other parties you mentioned. those journalists do their jobs, finding and reporting stories. did sowetan reporters hunt you? for what?
it's such a pity that a white man starts a newspaper with sh*$@#t content and we applaud them. what we don't realise is the influence that the media has on people. if we believe that tikoloshes or snakes can rape human beings, then believe me, this country is still too far from civilisation. funny part is, no one ever really saw a woman who has been pregnant for 28 years, it's just scientifically impossible. and the daily sun wants people to believe that. no wonder there is still ritual killings in some areas in the country, coz daily sun is perpercuating these myths. i'd rather read about what is happening in the real world, like people killing each other, accidents and yes - even politics - than unreal stories that i won't learn anything from.
by the way, sowetan is doing much better. the sales improved drastically since johnnic took over - weep GHB.
by the way, don't you wash with lux, eat Kellogs, have lunch @ Mcdonald, watch NY undercover listen to R Kelly....wear FUBU or NIKE? i don't see how that connects with the content of the paper.
gbh - hope that does not refer to gubbage....
