I'm not sure whether I get the bit about a "white christmas" ---after all, there are more Christians of colour in this country than there are white ones.
I think the answer is to celebrate a "Festive Season" and reserve some respect for the holy day of Christmas. Commercialism has hijacked what should be a religious festival.
But in all seriousness, every year Xmas deco goes up earlier. Perhaps that's why the noblemen in our parliament considered cancelling Xmas.............
When I read the forum headline I knew that someone was going to mention the race thing ("white christmas"). Stop being so damn sensitive! We all know that white christmas is what they refer to when it snows. Don't take everything so damn literally!!
Which Pick 'n Pay? Its a retail thing, not a Pick 'n Pay thing by Alan
Hello Ann... which Pick 'n Pay was it, may I ask? I haven't seen any Pick 'n Pay's with Christmas messaging yet, but certainly Makro and Game. And Rosebank Mall. So I'd say its a retail thing rather than a Pick 'n Pay thing.
Why does it ALWAYS have to be about race and religion?!?!? by Neither Racist nor religious!
Why does it upset Hindu's & Muslims?? The market for Xmas is christians which makes up the Majority of citizens in SA (This equals a large amount of Money) and 'White' Christmas - I was able to understand it first time, why make an issue out of the fact that the word 'White' is used?!?!?!?
The comment was about XMAS only - NOT RACE - NOT RELIGION!!!
Same question every year...and every year it goes up around end October by Aapstert
Its the 27th for heavens sake, less that two months away from what is arguably the busiest, most spend-happy time of year (especially for the advertising industry), and every year someone has to say something. Wake up and smell the cash.
I love the fact that we have an early Christmas feel in the stores! TELL ME YOU DO NOT WISH CHRISTMAS WAS ALREADY HERE!!!!!!!! If you don't - then you definitely did not have a full year! Go Pick n Pay Go!
Talk about taking away the festivities of the holiday season by all this premature overkill! By the time it gets here, we will all be sooo tired of the holidays! Why not start setting up for the 4th of July around Christmas while we are at it? That is how we feel over here in the US right now... nice to see that we are not alone!
As an indirect employee of PnP they are very aware of the fact that Christmas is going up in October/Nov and for the Hypers more like first week Nov. We are not alone on this planet when it comes to milking the proverbial Christmas Cash Cow (as ALL retailer do!), in the USA they start putting up Christmas Decor in September, now that too me is over-kill! So do we follow suite to the marketing/retail giants of the planet (US), or do we carry on doing what we think is correct?
how many of us are bored and have nothing to do, but write boring letters to save us from death by boredom. so i say let's start a club called (hell we can spend a year debating the name)
You should all be ashamed of yourselves!!! Its CHRISTMAS you are all whining about. Its a time for giving and sharing and you are all bitching at each other about whether or not you would like the festivities to start early. Who cares? Enjoy it while it lasts and do us all a favor and GET A LIFE!!!
Listen to you all, this is their choice, a company's choice to start early and prepare for the big season - many consumers already aim to purchase their X-mas goodies early to avoid the rush! And all this racist stuff is absolute nonsense and whomever you are - get a life!
Those that are complaining obviously don't see life through the eyes of their children. Everything is new and exciting and fun to enjoy. Christmas is not just celebrated by Christians and I bet some of you pessimists out there will eventially have to run out on the 24th of Dec to get some one a rushed gift instead of having enjoyed the season and thoughtfully selected gifts cheap or expensive for those you care about.
yes, it is Christmas we are wining about - excactly. Giving and especially taking is being exploited so far that Ackerman & Co are trying to stretch and squeeze evry drop out of a supposedly special period. The same goes for Hot Cross buns being sold almost year round - they rob us of something special at a special time of the year and make it everyday and bland.
Look around and you will see that quite a number of places have started putting up decorations
In a world that passes us by so fast - that you never have time to notice - it is good to see that some things are still noticed...so now think about all the other things that you have let rush you by this year.
And to all those that are always so complaining - put that wasted energy to use elsewhere in a more positive environment, it will be rewarded somehow. I.e. - get a life.
I once heard that Xmas decorations went up in one of the big malls in a big city - in the USA - early September
It amazes me that Pick n Pay is constantly singled out, when it is in fact all retailers and shopping malls who every year at this same time gear up for the festive season .
Trying to represent everyone in South Africa will always be a hard task - BUT IT'S SO IMPORTANT TO DO! just remember that this is a special time of year for everyone - whether you're black - white or pink. PEACE :)
