No you are not alone!!!
The sooner that the networks realise that we are utterly bored with 'Reality' TV, the better. I am so tired of hearing cretinous Americas going "oh my God' ad nauseum evey time I turn on my bloody TV. To compound it, I now have to endure cretinous South Africans going YIIRRR or something equally stupid. I can't be bothered. That is why I truly hope that a new service provider is going to actually start 'providing'. Providing some real entertainment.

I cringed at the attempt to do a Seffrican Survivor. Nearly as embarrassing as the local attempt at 'The Weakest link'. Please make it stop. Please!

What a yawn  by  KM
An hour of commentary about Cape Town and what to expect in the coming shows ... which is another hour about people getting lost in wine farms ... how exciting (YAWN)....

Too true  by  Nevermind
The minute I saw their stale presenter with his one hand in his jacket pocket, like some sort of British documentary ponce, that's when I reached for the remote and considered changing the channel. But I didn't want to be a typical South African who disses every local production like some idiots out there, so I gave it a chance, but that Verimark voice over eventually pushed me over the edge and I didn't even make it to the "Waterfront challenge". How do people manage to get these things on TV nevermind conning Toyota into forking out cash for something that stupid. The mind boggles.

Definitely not alone !  by  Brownie
Hi Pippa and the rest !
You are all spot on and definitely not alone.
Why is it that S.A. always has to copy someone else?
Surely we have some originality amongst our producers
and co. As far as reality goes.....also true....gave up
on American Survivor, Amazing race long ago...enough is
enough. It's all as bad as the Telkom call centre "hold"
tune...when are they going to change that ? !!!
As for the Verimark voice....well surely they could have
used someone less recognisable...I kept on thinking he was
going to say "and that's not all...."...did not make it to
the end of the show, but believe I gave it a fair chance.

Cheers.

Wait, that wasn't an ad...?
Surprisingly I can still put up with a fair amount of American reality tv in the form of Survivor and the Amazing Race - at least they've still got dibs on the "originality" factor (which can only be said coz they got there first) - but I was ready to keel over at this local not-so-Magic Cape Race... However, like all train wrecks you know you shouldn't - but can't help - watch, I was trapped bunny-style in the headlights of this truly looong ad... Horrified by the spoilers and the excessive history lesson. (Not that I'm trying to stomp on the learning factor, but there's such a thing as 'overkill'.) Fortunately our dodgy electricity provider pulled the plug at the right time for a change, snapping me out of my subjective torture. Who knows, maybe one of the boys down at Eskom was also watching and flipped the switch for the good of SA humanity (or perhaps SABC humility?) this time round...

Horrible  by  boredsick
What a pointless waste of time. Just like that other stupid pointless boring show "Walk the plank" that they had on a year or so back. I recall the way they hyped that show and it was also a big load of boring shite. This drivel reminds me of that show and it would not surprise me if it was produced by the same company. What sickens me is that the production company is getting paid good money to produce this crap. WTF are we paying TV licence fees for. This show is nothing but typical over hyped local shite.

Couchtrip revisited  by  SA Lover
Last year SABC broadcasted a very similar, but far more original concept called "Couchtrip" - aired on Sundays at 7:30. It was far less glam and involved the contestants way more. The first 13 episodes passed through the Northern Cape and the following 13 episodes zooted through The Western Cape. The visual were stunning and the show lavished the audience with "real" South African characters having to get along on an overland truck and play a survival game for a grand prize. Probably not as cut-throat as Survivor, but was a fun outing and the steady pace made it more relaxing and enjoyable - other than the hyperactive "what the hell just happened" speed of The Magic Cape Race and SABC 2's Sho't Left Chalenj.

Rather bring back more Couchtrip !!!

The only reason I'm watching the magic Cape Race.....  by  Sarah Woodward
Is that my brothers are a team. Little did they know it was going to be such a load of hokey rubbish. Anyway I have to keep watching to support the old fraternal love. But if anyone from SABC is listening - please re-edit the show or something. The only reason why I could think that anybody might watch is that they were involved. The biggest problem is that I have NO IDEA who the teams are or why I should care if they win or lose. And the presenter is a weirdo...

The Magic is lost...  by  boo bah!
The only reason we are watching this silly show, is because of our friends Jeremy and Michael. I cringe whenever the voice over artist speaks, and well, the presenter is just plain strange!
Good old SA tele!! BORING!

PLEASE DON'T GET ME WRONG  by  playerboyp
South Africa has been good by producing local dramas such as Yizo-Yizo, Gaz'Lam etc...Well that's only a few years back.
Remember the classics such as: Ke Kgwebo Ya Ka e, Lesilo Rula, Tsokotla, Ke Nako and likes of those sotho dramas.
I think SABC must just forget about these boring reality T.V and focus on what they do best (LOCAL DRAMAS such as those mentioned above). Remeber the classics such as Nkhwesheng played by both Patric Shai and Sebogodi(Kenneth Mashaba in Generations)

Well gone are the good days of seeing the point of paying our T.V licenses.

And another--------  by  Mike
I agree completely. This Toyota/Cape Winelands infomercial is almost as bad as the one for Jonway scooters and motorcycles, which I was unfortunate enough to find myself watching one boring afternoon during the holidays. At least the Jonway ad had a girl in a bikini!
The poor contestants probably had a fairly good time, but the poor viewers; at least we can switch off. But I do feel somewhat screwed by having to pay for a license to have the privilege of turning off this drivel.
