Your main stream magazines like cosmo, glamour, true love etc.are all the same, make up clothes plastic hair, i am a young black south african with no hair and dont wear make up, its hard for me as woman to read any of the existing woman magazines as i dont relate to any of their same old topics, I loved blink which was sa's first of its kind, it was male, but i could relate, there is classic feel magazine, that covers Jazz, Classical music, arts and culture, not forgeting Tribute that has now gone the blink route and is amazing the design , content is a worth read.
I absolutely adore Marie Claire. Have a look at the content. Now there's a mag that pushes bounderies. Each issue promises great though-provoking topics.
Check out the new youth magazine, Mshana. It's probably the best mag buy for Mzansi's youth out there today. Entertainment, issues, advice and 30+ pages of cool local comics - and only R6.95.
I have a problem with magazines covering the so calebrities whereas we have so people doing extra-ordinary things which could be put on public domain as a way of encouragement. Some magazines will go to an extent of doing follow up stories on the same celebrities even on their personal lives like bearing children which we as audience do not interest in knowing. We need magazines with substance knowledge.
I agree. Various magazines often run the same topic at different times and under different headings. Irrespective of the magazine the information is always similar, but in a different format and approach. This can become quite boring as whether it be a men's magazine or one that appeals to the ladies the same topics are discussed. Topics off the beaten track, but still appeal to the specific market could make the magazine stand out but the editor is concerned that their market could slacken. Bring back the original Style magazine before it started moving away from the male/female market and brought in fashion, etc.
INTIEM Magazine is a stunning new Afrikaans publication that deals with intimacy within the marriage.
