Webmail have privacy statements on their site (It is included below). What kind of response did you receive from them? I have recently contacted the DMA around a similar issue and their response was that they could only do something about it if the company that sent you the junkmail belong to the DMA. At the moment there is no legislation specific to this - but I agree - it is unacceptable! One must always read all privacy policies and you have to make sure that you did not in some oblong way subcribe to Castle (even through a competition etc).

JUNKMAIL
Privacy is a major issue and junk mail grows by the day.
To this end we commit:
never to sell your address Should advertisers wish to communicate directly we will do so on their behalf once we are certain that your interest profile matches the deal and that it offers true value. That should you receive unsolicited mail you will be able to report it to us using the spam alert button if necessary. and we will block them from future mailing. That we will constantly monitor and protect your inbox from unwanted mail.
To this end we suggest that you give out your address with care, particularly to other websites.
I hope you dont get offended, but I'm a bit sceptical about those commitments.
I've also noticed waves of spam coming into my mailbox after a friend of a friend of a friend, twice removed, added my email address to a list of ten email addresses they needed to enter a competition.
Assuming you really protect my email address, what about the third party addresses that I'd give for other reasons?
PS: Thanks for the email addresses, there's a competition running on another website to win a Lamborghini and I need to enter.
It happened again ... for the umpteenth time. I get SPAM from one of Webamail's partners. I email the CEO of the partner to complain and they are led to believe that the receivers of this SPAM have opted in by indicating this in their preferences when signing up. I go back to my preferences and see that there is no mention of me wanting comms from Notebook sales people, Edgars, Castle, etc. Sure, it is free mail but for that I already have to put up with badly executed and targeted banners.
When are people going to stand together against SPAM by Marc
Surely if the public takes legal action and even boycotts the companies that spam it will reduce at least the S.A. Spam.
I could even suggest the creation of a list of known spammers that could be published on the net and everywhere else. the same as publishing the names and home addresses of child molesters and rapists etc.
You can send Spam to webmail, because they don't have spam filters by Robert
Hi Everybody
I can't believe the way webmail guys work. They have a webbase email with lot of users, but not a spam filters on it. So thats why if anyone wants to send spam, they direct it to webmail users.
Might I just add that it's not just Webmail that bombards one with unwanted, sneaky spam, but other established brands too - I registered with Business Day, Financial Mail, and CNET News about a year ago, and on trying to unsubscribe (about 5 times) early this year, I STILL receive their newsletters. They even register as "spam" in my inbox! But I guess the word NO isn't in black-and-white anymore, but all the shades and interpretations of the rainbow.
So the only conclusion that I can reach is that if you hop on the spam highway, you become highway property for life - whether you like it or not.
