Australian brand, Forever New, which launched in South Africa last December with two stores, will launch its flagship store at Eastgate Shopping Centre this Thursday, 18 March 2010. 
The FNB/BER consumer confidence index (CCI) for 1Q2010 (conducted 5-19 February 2010) shows a rise in confidence of a further 9 index points to a level of +15 from the +6 at the end of last year. This is the single biggest increase between two consecutive quarters in five years. It is now at a slightly higher level compared to the one that prevailed before it plunged two years ago. However, the current level is still lower than the levels of +20 and above prevalent during 2006 and 2007. 
According to Michael Hainebach, chair of the Wireless Application Service Providers' Association (WASPA) Code of Conduct Working Group and a member of the association's recently announced 2010 Management Committee, the decision to require members to reconfirm consent from a subscriber to continue billing for a service when the customer's mobile content bill reaches R200 is yielding encouraging results. 
KFC has signed a sponsorship deal with the Crazy Entertainers, a group of performers from the township who perform on the streets, record skits, shoot movies with basic equipment, cut multiple DVD copies and sell them on the streets. They have played a key role in the increasing popularity of locally made, low-budget comedy DVDs that were inspired by the success of similar DVDs from Nigeria. 
The second annual Global Pizza Challenge (GPC) South Africa cook-offs took place at Hostex, 8-10 March 2010, at the Cape Town International Convention Centre. A little more flavour was added to the competition this year with the inclusion of the Peppadew category, which offered entrants the opportunity to win R10 000 by using its diced sweet piquanté peppers.
