Paarl Print launches new Komori colour presses
Issued by: Paarl Media

Paarl Print, a member of the Paarl Media Group, launched its new Komori presses at a cleverly themed function at its plant, reflecting the Japanese origins of these state of the art machines. Invitations, titled “Got a Yen for quick top quality printing?”, set the scene with mini Zen gardens.

Paarl Print recently launched its new Komori presses, renewing its commitment as a high quality sheet fed printer that offers reliable turnaround times. From left are Vivian Rudaizky (Chairman of Kemtek Imaging Systems), Yutaka Iwata San (Chairman of Komori Europe), Mike Ehret (MD Paarl Print), with at the back from left, Neil Sutton (MD of Komori UK), Phil Holland (Sales Manager of Komori UK) and Gavin van Rensburg (CEO of Kemtek Imaging Systems).
Paarl Print's three new Komori Lithrone presses (one eight colour Perfector and two six colour presses with coaters), supplied by Kemtek Imaging Systems, are the finest, fastest and most efficient Japanese print technology available. Guest of honour, Yutaka Iwata San, chairman of Komori Europe, highlighted that Komori presses are even responsible for the printing of the Japanese Yen.

The launch confirmed Paarl Print's commitment to providing exceptional quality printing with fast turnaround times. The six colour Komori Lithrone S640 presses with inline coating allow a corporate colour, a spot colour and inline aqueous varnish finish, opening the market for specialty coatings on promotional and advertising brochures, pamphlets and niche magazines. The eight colour press is suited for four over four printing.

The speed of these presses was brought to life at the event when customers were presented with a special photographic brochure as they departed, including pictures taken a few hours earlier during the launch.

According to Paarl Print's Managing Director, Mike Ehret, the new presses are just one of the enhancements at Paarl Print. “We are extremely proud of becoming the first printer in South Africa with full ISO international colour certification standards. Paarl Print guarantees that the colour of printing will be 100% correct in terms of artwork supplied. All proofs are certified for perfect colour and we have created a mechanical to electronic footprint for each press. Plates are custom made taking into account each machine's unique performance to eliminate any variance hereby giving ISO colour quality straight from our presses.”

A new Screen PlateRite 8800 platesetter was also ordered from Kemtek Imaging Systems, to further enhance Paarl Print's capacity to supply plates to all the presses to meet customers' demands. Paarl Print's Pre-press has also upgraded to SPEKTA 2 screening software. This innovative hybrid method gives the best of conventional AM and FM screening with up to a simulated 400 dots per line per inch. It eliminates jagged lines and moiré as well as providing superior reproduction of fine details and midtones, ensuring top photographic print quality for images especially for food, fashion, flesh and fabric.

Paarl Print has further streamlined communication and processes in its Pre-press with the implementation of Prinergy Workflow and Kodak InSite. Prinergy Workflow is a seamless end to end page independent workflow solution for processing pdf print ready digital files for output on plate setters. Each page in a job is refined, normalised, imposed and trapped individually. Once approved, individual files are sent automatically to the RIP, where the system waits for the imposition scheme to be completed before the plate is imposed and then imaged. This leading technology cuts out delays and ensures exceptional turnaround times in getting material to press. Kodak InSite offers the convenience of remote proofing, allowing customers to pre-approve their ripped files through the Internet.

Paarl Print's Bindery has also enjoyed an upgrade with two additional new Stahl folding machines and a refurbishment of the PUR bindery line.
Customers are now also assured of timeous delivery thanks to three Acepak Automatics shrink-wrapping machines plus a Gossamer CE-400L automatic box erector, which can erect 110 boxes per minute.

Ehret concludes: “We have invested heavily in our plant's processes, equipment and technology which is further complemented by the skills and passion of our staff. We have also implemented tight production controls with an integrated system, providing real time information on job status throughout the production process thereby eliminating error and inefficiency. Our top quality printing with quick turnaround times ensures our customers have the confidence that we will provide them with printing that creates the best impression.”
