First African judge for LogoLounge

Gaby de Abreu, group creative director of Switch Group, has been selected as a judge for the LogoLounge Book 4, the next in the bestselling series of design books from LogoLounge.com. De Abreu is the first judge from the African continent to receive such a request.

De Abreu has been a Loerie judge for the past 10 years, a vice chairman for think, the local graphic design council, and, through Switch, de Abreu the branding designed logos for 2010 FIFA World Cup.

According to Bill Gardner from LogoLounge, the panel of judges has been selected based on the high standards of their work. Gardner says they share a common trait towards excellence in design, but also cover a diverse age and geographic range: “Since this is an international organisation, our past judges have represented nearly every continent, and though we have featured designers in South Africa, Gaby de Abreu will be our first judge from the African continent.”

As with the first three volumes, LogoLounge Book 4 will rely on the judges’ panel to select the logo content for the book. These logos are selected from those uploaded to the LogoLounge.com site by its members. Gardner says this year, judges will be selecting logos from a pool of nearly 27 000 identities.

“I am both honoured and excited to be part of the LogoLounge judging panel. What makes LogoLounge exciting for me is that it is directly related to my passion for corporate identity design and is an opportunity to judge alongside international design gurus such as Neville Brody,” concludes de Abreu.
