Winning entries require skills to prepare
Issued by: Quo Vadis Communications

South Africa has a wealth of talent and the projects that communicators throughout the country implement have been proven to be on par with the rest of the world. This can be seen through the numerous awards won by many South African business communicators down the years - notable amongst them winners of International Gold Quill Awards.

Regrettably, many companies lack the know-how to organise their work into an entry that stands to win worldwide recognition.

So says Theo Coggin, Executive Chairperson of Quo Vadis Communications, who was commenting on the call for entries by the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC). The awards are held annually and recognise excellence in business communication.

Coggin, a past convenor of judges and judge for the African region, and a former President of the IABC SA Chapter, says his consistent experience was that many South African communicators did not realise they have what it takes in competing globally - which is effectively what the Gold Quill Awards are about.

“Yet when I have been to international conferences and looked at the entries from around the world, dominated always by the US, there is no question that many PR and business communications projects successfully implemented here are better than others that are produced in countries held out to be leaders in our field,” he says.

Coggin, who is also a past winner of an International Gold Quill, and whose company has assisted a number of other communicators and corporates in preparing their winning Gold Quill entries since 1996, says that if communication practitioners believe they have an award-winning project or campaign, they should enter it.

If you are keen but unsure of whether your project or campaign meets all the requirements the IABC stipulates, contact Quo Vadis Communications (QVC) which can provide in-depth advice and a consultancy service in assisting you in preparing and submitting the entry.

Past Gold Quill Award-winning companies that have utilised QVC's services include Nedbank, SAPPI and Gautrain. Winners of the Africa Gold Quill Award are entered into the competition for the international award.

QVC are adept at providing advice on the best way in which to prepare an entry, bringing a wealth of experience to the fore. Coggin's business partner, Ruth Coggin, has also won an International Gold Quill Award for her work.

With the deadlines for submissions drawing nearer, (the first deadline is the 27 January 2009 with the final deadline being on the 3rd February 2009) contact Chantal Meugens at chantal@quo-vadis.co.za.
