Outdoor media specialist company Adwraps wants to do their bit in helping SA and the electricity crisis at hand.
As most of their billboards work on a timer device, allowing Adwraps to set what time they want their billboards to be switched on and off, if Eskom was to request that outdoor media and advertisers alike need to do their part in helping with load shedding, and saving power by using no power to illuminate their boards during 'dead times', then it is entirely plausible and possible.
“This fairly simple solution to the billboard industry allows us to set our timers to only come on when we feel it is necessary – say for example only at 7pm in the evenings during summer, and switched off altogether during the dead hours of 2am to 5am,” says Adrian Levine of Adwraps.
He goes on to state that they would hope that their advertisers (who pay for their product to appear on the illuminated billboards) would not have any objection if their advert was not illuminated during the suggested early hours of the morning, as this is an exceptionally quiet time from a vehicle and pedestrian traffic point of view.
Owner of Adwraps, Hilton Steinfeld, adds: “It is quite clear that we are well equipped and prepared to assist wherever possible in bringing the amount of power used down, and I'm sure that if it was to assist the country, no one would really have a problem with doing so.”
