Demystifying voice and data communications systems

Alcatel-Lucent is organising a customised workshop for media professionals in Egypt in order to enhance their understanding of the "how and why" of voice and data communications systems, networks and terminology and the impact of these technologies on business decisions and opportunities.

The workshop will be held under the umbrella of Alcatel-Lucent University in Egypt, the company premier organisation for continuous learning and professional development. The University was inaugurated in June 2007 by H.E. Dr. Tarek Kamel, Minister of Communication and Information Technology and Vincenzo Nesci, President Middle East and Africa activities for Alcatel-Lucent. The Cairo branch is the 20th certified training centre within the company's global education network and the first Alcatel-Lucent certified university in the Middle East and Africa.

The workshop which is called “Introduction to Telecommunications Concepts” will enable journalists to more fully understand the communications industry structure, how it is changing, and how it affects competition, pricing and new services. Journalists who attend the course are provided with an overview on the basics of voice and data communications technology; targeting important terms and concepts in networking and networking architectures as well as the major components of a typical network.

“Alcatel-Lucent has been in Egypt since 1981, and we are a company that strongly fosters training and education for both our employees and customers which is why we launched the Alcatel-Lucent University in Egypt in 2007,” Said Nesci. “This is the first time we are providing training for media professionals in the Middle East, and I am very proud that we will be able contribute to the enhancement of the Egyptian journalists' knowledge in telecommunications and promote quality journalism in Egypt.”

Alcatel-Lucent University's global network of 21 training centres is strategically located near its major customers and employee concentrations. Each university is individually accredited as part of a detailed peer review to ensure a consistent, high-quality training experience.
