Sony celebrates ‘A Night of Champions' with the UEFA Finals in High Definition (HD)

Sony achieved another High Definition milestone when, in co-operation with SuperSport, they showed the UEFA Champions League finals between Manchester United and Chelsea live from the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow.

Via a Sony Digital Cinema Projector with an unprecedented resolution of over 4 million pixels, the audience was treated to a HD experience with images so vivid it was as if they were watching the game live in Moscow.

Sony teamed up with SuperSport who provided the HD feed via satellite downlink directly from Moscow. This was also a dry run for SuperSport as they prepare to enter the world of HDTV broadcast where DStv subscribers will soon be able to watch their favourite sport or entertainment in HD; starting with the Beijing 2008 Olympics in August with a dedicated HD channel.

To assist Sony, Volcano and Octagon Marketing joined forces and organised an event in The Venue at Melrose Arch that not only showed the Finals but also depicted the electric atmosphere of a SuperSport studio with the aid of football experts Terry Payne, Eddie Lewis and Thomas Mlambo. The 500-strong crowd also included many football stars such as Neill Tovey and Mark Williams. DJ Fresh and Loyiso also entertained the crowd after the game.

Sony's involvement in football has expanded tremendously over the past few years and will grow considerably in future. Sony has not only been a sponsor of the UEFA Champions League for the past two years but is involved in many other football initiatives worldwide. Sony is an Official FIFA partner for all FIFA Football events right up until the 2014 Brazil World Cup.
