Newspaper training from audio content to typography

DARMSTADT, GERMANY: IFRA, the worldwide research and service organisation for the news publishing industry, released its programme of training events for 2008 and 2009 yesterday, Tuesday, 4 March 2008. About 40 training events will cover editorial, design and concept, production, quality assurance and management and business development.

IFRA's objective is to provide its members and clients not just with the latest skills that they need in the rapidly changing media world, but also to guarantee a high-quality learning experience.

The news publishing industry has been taking advantage of IFRA Training events for 12 years. The record registration of more than 1000 participants from 20 countries last year shows that there is a growing need for qualified personnel.

Practice-oriented learning methods

In order to ensure that the participants can acquire the necessary skills in a flexible way, IFRA offers various concepts:
  • Workshop and training: the traditional stand-alone training provides the necessary knowledge and practical experience.
  • Coaching: coaching sessions are ideal for reinforcing stand-alone training and workshops.
  • Situated training: this concept emulates the multiple-day, hands-on approach.
  • Topics update: the objective of this series of one-day workshops is to inform in a compact manner latest trends in the media industry and discuss relevant concepts in small, intimate groups.

Ideal learning atmosphere

The IFRA Training Centre in Darmstadt offers participants an ideal learning atmosphere:
  • a spacious training room equipped the latest technical facilities,
  • individual, computerised workplaces as well as sufficient space for the practical team work,
  • the number of participants is limited to a maximum six or twelve persons respectively,
  • extensive training documentation in printed and digital form, up-to-the-minute background
  • through our publications, such as IFRA Reports and the IFRA magazine,
  • a certificate testifying to participation,
  • individual follow-up support after the training course.

In advance of the training, IFRA contacts the participants to define which aspects the training should cover, to find out about the specific conditions and processes at the operation concerned, eg products, technical equipment and work processes, as well as to determine the basic and specialised knowledge of the personnel to be trained.

All of the IFRA trainers are reported to be highly skilled experts from the newspaper industry who have been selected on the basis of their specialised and international experience, as well as their practice-orientation.

On-site company training

IFRA also offers on-site company training, ensuring that several colleagues simultaneously reach the same level of knowledge and to jointly develop company-specific processes in an aimed manner.

The training topics are published in a comprehensive brochure that can be downloaded from www.ifra.com/training, which also lists the dates and venues of training courses scheduled for the near future. See also www.ifra.com/newsplex.
