More than a million rand up for grabs at the DStv Getaway Show
Issued by: Ramsay Son & Parker

With more than a million rand in giveaways, over 300 exhibitors showcasing everything travel and outdoor related under the sun and fun for young and old alike, the DStv Getaway Show at the Coca-Cola dome, Randburg, is the place for the whole family to be this weekend.

Holiday enthusiasts on the hunt for local and overseas holiday destinations, 4x4 vehicles and accessories, caravans, diving equipment and hiking and camping gear will find all the information they need at the show, run in association with Jacaranda 94.2.

Among the big-ticket prizes up for grabs are accommodation packages for the Maldives, a Ford Ranger 3.0 TDCi , a Jurgens caravan and a Conti motorbike. The wine-and-spin competition area could also see visitors walking away with trips to Mozambique, 4x4 holidays, weekend breakaways and more.

Visitors will be queuing up to take advantage of the great show special discounts: a Makro fridge compressor and cover for only R5 999 (usually R8 800), selected GPS systems less 25%, upgrade to the new PVR HD decoder for R2 999, fully installed. Those who take advantage of the Getaway and Mooiloop subscription offers will be eligible for a 35% - 40% discount.

Workshops at the DStv Getaway Show are always popular and generally book out early. Experts in digital, travel and wildlife photography as well as GPS navigation share their know-how with visitors. Getaway editor Don Pinnock will also relate some of his experiences as a travel writer.

Adventure activity is a big attraction at the show and visitors will be able to swing across the Dome on a 110-metre zip line, test their agility on the climbing wall and try out underwater gear in a diving pool, or simply enjoy a beer at the House of Hansa Beer Tent while they see if South Africa can beat Australia in the Tri-Nations.

Young and old alike can burn up excess energy at the skate park and trial bike track. Even the kiddies can get in on the action, with soccer games, a ball pond and a trampoline as well as face painting and crafts to keep them busy at the Jozikids play area, where they will meet Shrek and Barney. A reptile show, tribal dancing and drumming will add to the African feel.

The DStv Show is open from 11:00 - 19:00 on Friday, 29 August, 9:00 - 19:00 on Saturday, 30 August and 9:00 - 17:00 on Sunday, 31 August. Entry is R50 for adults and R30 for pensioners and students. Children under 12 are free.
