Avusa awards for retailers

Gauteng's top retailers were honoured last night at the inaugural annual Retail Awards ceremony at Constitution Hill in Johannesburg.

The awards are hosted by The Times and Sowetan, which are both owned by Avusa Media.

Avusa Media general manager for advertising revenue and strategic communications, Enver Groenewald, said: “These awards will follow in the footsteps and are of the same integrity as Avusa's well known Top Brands and Generation Next research initiatives.

“Through the awards we hope to provide retailers with a gauge as to their ranking in the mind of Gauteng consumers.”

The awards are the grand finale to the recently launched Clever Shopper initiative, which involves weekly pages on savvy shopping in both The Times and Sowetan and a competition in which the winners walk away with a shopping spree at their favourite mall.

The Times and Sowetan commissioned Ipsos Markinor to conduct research across Gauteng.

The researchers approached consumers who are in LSM 7 to 10 and LSM 5 to 8, representative of The Times and Sowetan readers respectively. The consumers provided information on who their top retailers were and where they would shop until they dropped.

Winners in the 29 categories judged were: Ackermans, Absa, Dream Nails, Toyota, Game, South African Airways, eBucks, Game, Levi's Store, Claire's, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Edgars, Pick n Pay, BP Express, Clicks, Mr Price Home, American Swiss, Liquor City, Menlyn Shopping Centre, Ster-Kinekor, Spitz, Lacoste, Total Sports, CNA, Rennies and Midas.
