Two RCP journalists took top honours at the South African Guild of Motoring's Motoring Journalist of the Year awards, held at the Johannesburg Country Club recently.
Rapport's Egmont Sippel was chosen as the Guild's Motoring Journalist of the Year, while City Press's Steve Dlamini-Kabini was commended in the Motoring Newspaper category.
“Sippel, renowned for his candid reporting, was recognised for his long-standing contribution to motoring journalism,” says a proud Lucille van Niekerk, CEO of RCP Media.
Van Niekerk explains that in addition to his full-time job as motoring editor of Rapport, Sippel freelances for magazines and websites and, in his entry, submitted an extensive portfolio of reports and features. “These were deemed by the panel of judges to represent the highest standard of newspaper, magazine and Internet reporting in categories encompassing motoring and motor sport,” she says.
A cash prize of R10 000 and a trophy was presented to each winner. Sponsored by Nedbank Vehicle and Asset Finance, the Guild's awards recognise excellence in motoring journalism and photography. The competition attracted nearly 70 entries from the country's top motoring writers and photographers.
