The Sun rises in Lenasia

Caxton and its Durban-based partner, the Rising Sun Group, launched The Rising Sun Lenasia community newspaper last month. According to Gill Randall, joint MD of the Newspaper Advertising Bureau (NAB), this is a much-needed weekly paper that will serve the vibrant Lenasia community.

“The popularity of these titles amongst the Indian community in KwaZulu-Natal meant it was an obvious move to now launch this brand in Gauteng,” she says.

The Rising Sun Lenasia will distribute 30 000 copies every Thursday to areas including Lenasia South, Lenasia South Extensions One, Two, Four, Nine and Ten, Lenasia Central and Lenasia Extensions One through Eight, Eleven and Thirteen, Zakariyya Park, Ennerdale and Ennerdale Extensions One, Two and Three.

“Advertisers will have regular access to the burgeoning Lenasia community, accessing their direct shopping and lifestyle needs and their disposable income,” says Randall.

The Rising Sun Newspaper Group represents a number of community newspapers in the Durban metropolitan area and reportedly has combined community readership of over 800 000 in the Durban area.

New distribution day

Meanwhile, the fortnightly Queensburgh News, which is also represented by NAB, has changed its distribution day with immediate effect. The KZN-based community newspaper will now distribute 13 200 copies every second Thursday and not Friday as in the past. Distribution areas include Bellair, Escombe, Hillary, Malvern, Memorial Park, Mt Vernon, Northdene, Queensburgh and Seaview and bulk drops at Malvern Pick ‘n Pay, Malvern Shoprite, Queensmead Service Station and South Mall.
