New emporium devoted to food-lovers

New hospitality development, Epicurean Food Emporium, is set to launch in late 2008. This universal concept is a first for South Africa, Cape Town, and aims to set a new benchmark in the food hospitality and retail market.

Situated on the ground floor of The Rockwell, Green Point, the food emporium intends to create a one-stop marketplace synonymous with fine food, supreme quality, exceptional service, ultimate taste sensations and trends, with the convenience of a neighbourhood foodmarket.

Gain Property Developers appointed Conrad Gallagher Consulting as the concept designers and have been working with Source Architects on the project.

Comprising of various small units, The Epicurean Food Emporium offers potential tenants the opportunity to set up shop in a structured environment with ease of ensuring huge capital investments. The entire vision is a dedicated food and beverage idea with over six restaurants and a retail area of approximately 15 food and beverage concept stores (10 - 40m2). Tenants and customers can expect an open air feel with the open plan design of the main areas.

Families and foodies alike are in for a big treat as visitors can explore food halls offering a variety of custom-crafted culinary finds, decadent gourmet delicacies, premium private label products and local organic produce. Freshly baked breads, homemade jams, chutneys, olive oils, pesto, fine wines, gourmet sandwiches, chocolates, ice cream, confectionary and international cheeses are just some of the delicious foods on offer.

Other highlights include an oyster and caviar bar, salmon bar, sushi and sashimi, a juice bar, a working winery with tasting rooms as well as various restaurants, which will feature an upmarket New York style steakhouse, Asian noodle bar, Lebanese restaurant, an Italian style café, contemporary Seafood, a fusion Indian Restaurant and Cookery School, to name only a few.

Whether consumers require kitchen gadgets, flowers, glass- or tableware, the freshest vegetables and fruit, the Epicurean Food Emporium will be the place to shop. With 2010 on our doorsteps, the emporium is set to offer locals and international guests a memorable gastronomic experience. The option of making buses available to transport patrons from major hotels to the site is being investigated. Ample parking will be available for customers with 24 hour security. Plans for launching an Epicurean Food Emporium in Johannesburg are also in progress.

The venue is set to cater for approximately 3000 people so with a guaranteed footfall, small investment opportunities are available to boutique operators and tenants.
