"Welcome to a world without rules."
Issued by: Grapevine Media

Anyone who enjoys going to the movies, clubbing, socialising, and, well, driving anywhere, would have come across this line on the recent “The Dark Knight” campaign. The movie featuring Christian Bale as Batman was released at cinemas on the 25th July.

Grapevine Promotions and Grapevine Postcards worked in synergy to create an exciting, interactive campaign to promote the movie throughout the month of July.

The Dark Knight promotion took place at various popular nightclubs in Gauteng, Durban and Cape Town. The following nightclubs were visited:
- Manhattan
- Casablanca
- Cat Walk
- Tiger Tiger
- Joe Cools

A group of promoters were equipped with sexy outfits that consisted of alluring masks, short black skirts paired with funky yellow belts, and a camera. Our promoters interacted with the patrons, collecting their details on The Dark Knight postcard entry forms for the draw that took place later in the evening. Some of the awesome prizes included Police hampers (consisting of Police Sunglasses and wrist/desk watches), and Batman hampers, which included T-shirts and DVD's to the total value of approximately R40 000.

The main aim of this promotion was to create as much hype and awareness of the much anticipated movie. This was done by executing a number of point-of-sale elements such as cleverly placed pull-up banners that featured the competition details as well as Batman-themed entrance stamps. These elements increased the patrons' curiousity, which allowed the promoters to interact with the patrons effortlessly, as well as increased the number of people entering the nightclub.

In conjunction with the nightclubs, The Dark Knight promoters also took to the streets, handing out The Dark Knight postcards at major intersections throughout Gauteng, Durban and Cape Town.

The promoters were dressed in the same funky outfits with the exception of their masks that they swapped for cool caps. The handouts helped inform the public about the running promotion and the movie's release date. These handouts gave people a good idea of what to expect and motivate them to go to the selected nightclubs to stand in line to win an awesome prize.

Grapevine furthermore set up an interactive Facebook group that was advertised via our postcard racks as well as at intersection handouts. Anyone was able to join the group receiving great benefits such as a detailed schedule of the promotion dates and times, viewing all the pictures taken at each nightclub, sharing links and writing on the group's wall. To date, this group has already grown by 229 members. The general consumer response was extremely positive, with a whopping 1472 entries being collected.

The nightclub owner's response to the promotion was: “Extremely well organised and implemented - all in all a huge success.”
