Media Cube launches new Nokia EL billboards at OR Tambo International Airport
Issued by: Media Cube

Media Cube, in association with MediaCompete, Grey Worldwide and Airport Media, have launched the new Electroluminescent billboard at the OR Tambo International airport. Electroluminescent technology allows for paper thin vinyl to light up in selected animation sequences causing the billboard or poster to be immediately noticed. This technology proves far more effective in drawing passer by attention to the message portrait than regular static prints.

Media Cube would like to present the new Nokia Electroluminescent billboard at the OR Tambo International Airport. This was a project in association with Grey Worldwide, MediaCompete and Airport Media. This is the largest undertaking using the Electroluminescent technology in South Africa to date.

Media Cube continuously strives to be on the cutting edge of Innovative Media Solutions, helping you get your message and brand across to clients in a more powerful and unique way. This project is an example of how advertising in South Africa is changing and moving forward and Media Cube is leading the way.

Electroluminescence is a paper thin panel that contains an organic phosphor based material. When electricity is passed through the phosphor it illuminates and animates in a pre-set sequence. We can now control the lifespan and animation sequence of the EL panels. Posters and billboards that were previously static are animated with motion.

EL Technology's unique visuals deliver immediate, high-impact graphics that attract attention, generate excitement, and move customers to buy. By putting your images into animation you set them apart from the competition and capture your viewer's attention. Because of their flexibility, sheets can be attached to any flat or curved surface. They can be framed like a picture or hung like a banner.

EL can prolong the life of your marketing messages as the potential customers usually keep these unique images together with your message as collectible. The returns of your investment will be enhanced.

“The installation procedure for these two large billboards proved to be a complicated and delicate operation but with the quality control processes that we have in place, with the pre-checks and post-checks by our supplier and the Media Cube staff the operation was always earmarked for success” says Neil Meyerowitz, Logistics Director at Media Cube.

Previous Electroluminescent projects have been attempted in South Africa, but not to this degree of exposure and illumination.

International case studies have shown that an upwards of 600% viewing has been generated when a motion driven EL billboard is used in comparison to an identical static billboard.

The Nokia E90 Communicator project at the OR Tambo International airport is a unique and successful venture between some of the industries leading advertising agencies and Media Cube.
Elad Segev, Managing Director of Media Cube summed up the project by saying that “we at Media Cube are proud of the relationships that we have formed with MediaCompete, Grey Worldwide and Airport Media and look forward to further successful projects in the future. This project paves the way for advertising agencies and clients to change from the static ‘safe' advertising to the more dynamic motion driven, innovative media solutions of the future.”

With the release of Media Cube's new 3D and Lenticular products the future of advertising and branding does indeed seem to be heading in the right direction. Moving towards merchandise, posters and billboards that in themselves are fascinating no matter what brand is being advertised. Any product or message displayed is bound to be noticed.
