The birds are flying high at the airports
Issued by: Airport Media

Les girls are at it again. When Suzanne Roberts and Debbie Lea founded Airport Media in 2002 they set out to take on the big boys who had dominated airport advertising for many years.

Now leaders in their field, they have achieved their company's remarkable dominance through guts and determination. What they have done is to know their product and guide their clients to the best and most appropriate opportunities available. They have made a lot of blue chip clients very happy.

The result is that their client list is now a veritable who's who of marketing in South Africa - Vodacom, Standard bank, MTN, BOE, South African Airways, Avis, Nokia, Peermont Global Resorts to name but a few. However, traditional advertising sites were not enough for this dynamic team.

They have now been awarded a prestige ACSA tender for the sole and exclusive rights for displays, promotions and experiential marketing campaigns enabling them to raise the bar in communications at South Africa's international and regional airports. To handle this business they have launched their new division, Airport Activation with its own staff and identity.

Now able to expand their offering to clients and provide a wide range of interactive opportunities - the sky is the limit. Advertisers will be offered touchy-feely facilities like never before. Creative minds will have a field day.

First and business class passengers, frequent flyers and the ever increasing number of low cost airline passengers will be entertained by promotions and displays ranging from luxury goods to car displays, live bands, fashion shows to sampling of FMCG goods.

Looking ahead to 2010 they say the options interactive communications offer will be limitless. All to be available soon through Airport Activation, les girls, Suzanne and Debbie and their team are brimming with enthusiasm. To prepare for the tender they travelled to Europe to study similar operations in key airports there.

So, if you are at the international terminal don't be surprised to experience promotions linked to duty free outlets; leading brands of cosmetics, clothing and other products available on the spot. Interact with brands in public halls, holding lounges and at point of purchase. For the first time airport terminals meet shopping malls.

“Clients will be pleased to share our experience in experiential opportunities. Life at the airports will never be the same again,” says Debbie. Suzanne adds, “OR Tambo airport, for instance, is the equivalent of a fair sized city. 14,000 people work there and they, with the meeters and greeters, kissers and wavers, together with passengers, make up a total of one million people each week exposed to marketing stimulus.” The thinking market linked to the thinking person's media.

The mix is seductive; talent, maturity, with a touch of business savvy mixed with a bit of sexy. Just what the client ordered.
