Late-night talk with Matsunyane

South Africa has been lacking a late-night adult talk show since Phat Joe and Felicia folded away their couches, but Late Night With Kgomotso is set to make Saturdays stay-at-home nights and provide juicy talking points for days afterwards.

Debuting on SABC2 on Saturday, 18 October 2008, at 10pm, Late Night With Kgomotso promises to be fun, irreverent, provocative and will take an entertaining look at showbiz, arts, sports and current affairs, hosted by one of South Africa's most go-getting and outspoken women, media personality and filmmaker Kgomotso Matsunyane.

Matsunyane, 36, is the former editor of O, The Oprah Magazine in South Africa. She previously wrote a weekly column on New24.com and runs her own film and television company, T.O.M. Pictures, with her partners Robbie Thorpe and Akin Omotoso. For her contribution to the local film industry, she recently walked away with top honours during the Women in Film Awards sponsored by the Gauteng MEC for Finance and Economic Affairs Department.

Both cheeky and celebratory in tone, the show will feature a balance of talk and entertainment, showcasing the country's hottest creative talents, from musicians to comedians. However, audiences can also look forward to hearing the views of movers and shakers, sportsmen, captains of industry and other prominent figures on the show.

The show will be recorded in front of a live studio audience. As is the case with all top late-night talk shows, there will be a live band for the featured guest musicians to jam with. This “house band” features the cream of South African musicians, including bandleader Andre Abrahamse on bass, McCoy Mrubata on saxophone and flute, Bernice Boikanyo on drums, Paul Hanmer on keyboards and Joel Klein on guitar.

Another regular element of the show will be a stand-up comedy slot, to showcase the best in local and international comedy, in keeping with the South African stand-up scene's recent explosion in popularity.
