SAFA award for Soweto TV sports presenter

Soweto TV producer and presenter Sylvester Zungu recently received a SAFA Soweto Award for his encouragement and motivation toward the people in the township for them to participate in different kinds of sporting codes.

Zungu was born and raised in Soweto, Mzimhlophe Township and attended the Thulasizwe Primary School. He then went on to Anchor Secondary School where he matriculated in 1994. Zungu's highest qualification is in Light Current Electronics N6.

Later he joined the Telecommunication Company in 1998 as a qualified technical officer up until July 2007, when he heard about the launch of Soweto Community TV. After going for an interview, he was later offered a position at the community television station.

Zungu is so zealous about sport that he has a number of accomplishments under his belt, including: a diploma in tennis, Qualified Tennis coach with ITF Level Two, Coach for Soweto TV Soccer Team and a Certificate in Sport Administration with the Academy of Sport DNA. Sylvester also enjoys debating.

Zungu says he would like to see himself as a sports presenter with relevant qualifications. “If I'm given the opportunity I would like to see myself executing my TV career with great ambition and pride. Because I'm passionate about sports I would love to be involved in other sporting codes and be a role model to the younger generation by acting with respect and integrity.”

He would also like to see more development in the township, especially coming from Soweto TV.

Watch Zungu in action on Spytwotshamaya from 6pm on Wednesdays and from 12pm on Saturdays for Dipapadi on Soweto Community Television. You can also watch Soweto TV on DSTV channel 150.
