Feed the hungry with an Egoli burger

In August 2007, M-Net's popular daily drama Egoli will broadcast its 4000th episode. But instead of turning this milestone into yet another glitzy, costly affair, the Egoli cast and crew will embark on a nationwide charity drive to feed the hungry.

To raise funds for this initiative, aptly called Project 4000, Egoli and South Africa's favourite flame-grilled burger specialists Steers have created a limited edition ‘Egoli Burger'.

For one day only, Saturday 4 August, the ‘Egoli Burger' will be available at all Steers restaurants around the country. If you buy one of these burgers between 9am and 5pm on that day, R7.00 from the sale of each burger (costing R20.00) will be donated to JAM, a charity organisation that has distributed food to the poor for more than 20 years.

M-Net will also add R10.00 to the first 4000 sales, and who knows, if you visit your local Steers, you might bump into one of the Egoli stars, who will be on duty at Steers restaurants across the country.

Burgert Muller, Egoli's associate producer, says the Egoli stars have never been so excited about a project. “They wanted to celebrate Egoli's 4000th episode in a unique way and during a lengthy brain storming session the cast and crew came up with this awesome idea. We trust that our efforts will bring joy to many people who are in desperate need of life's most basic need, food. And we hope that Project 4000 will lead the way for many similar initiatives.”

Egoli and Steers are aiming to raise as much money as possible with Project 4000.

“We would of course love to add a couple of zero's to our 4000,” says Muller, “but every cent will make a difference. So, please buy your ‘Egoli Burger' on Saturday, 4 August and help us feed the hungry.”
