Soweto Community Television (SCTV) will soon be on air after being granted South Africa's very first one-year community television licence by ICASA.
AirMedia have been actively involved with the establishment of SCTV by providing free equipment, training and technical support to the station during their ‘one month at a time' broadcasts that have been airing over the past two years.
In addition to donating their technical expertise, AirMedia's advertising sales arm, BrandWave, was also responsible for selling sponsorship and advertising space. This combined contribution ensured that the station could fund their operating and staff costs and created a solid platform from which they were able to achieve the unprecedented accomplishment of gaining the country's first one-year community television licence.
“AirMedia have been instrumental in the early success of SCTV,” says Force Kashane, Chairman of the SCTV board. “They have enabled us to deliver a professional broadcast service to the greater Soweto community and we're looking to further that success with BrandWave as our advertising sales partner throughout the licence period.”
The one-year licence means that SCTV can now extend and improve their product offering. In order to provide SCTV's viewers with well-produced, locally relevant programming, SCTV have partnered with Urban Brew Studios to develop and produce much of the content for the station.
SCTV now represents a unique and focused media channel, and BrandWave has a range of great packages immediately available to advertisers. From News, Sport and Programming sponsorships through to standard ad spot flighting, SCTV is an affordable and flexible advertising opportunity.
AirMedia is committed to providing ongoing support to initiatives that benefit the community and is currently assisting the newly licensed Midrand Community Radio station to set up their infrastructure and prepare for broadcast in September.
