Hot on the heels of boasting a dramatic increase in their listenership figures, Heart 104.9FM has announced that another major personality has joined their line-up.
Sam Roy has been a feature on the Cape Town radio dial for 15 years, and now takes over the Weekend Breakfast show at Heart 104.9FM. He brings with him a legendary passion for radio, a reputation for highly creative features and an audience-winning personality.
The station's fans will still get to enjoy the hugely popular “On The Couch” Saturday sports feature with controversial ‘Couch Coach' Martin Myers and the outspoken Peter Stemmet between 8 and 9am Roy is a passionate sports follower himself, freely admitting to being a die-hard Tottenham Hotspurs fan and a big supporter of local soccer, cricket and rugby.
New additions to the four-hour show will be Bollywood favourite DJ Ravi - who will offer somewhat unique weather reporting, and Korean radio stalwart Gerald, who will be negotiating exclusive bargains for listeners from a range of retailers each week.
Sam Roy's love for broadcasting began at the age of seven, when his father gave him his first radio. Inspired by the Erstwhile Springbok Radio, he became a club DJ at just 13. This history will be reflected through “DJ Huggy's Mix” - a 20-minute mix of year-specific dance music.
Roy's Sunday show will largely reflect Heart 104.9FM's successful “Old Skool” music format. What he adds to the station's already strong personality offering is an infectious positivity about Cape Town and a wealth of experience in tapping into the local mood.
Sam Roy will be hosting Weekend Breakfast on Heart 104.9FM from Saturday 5 July.
