Nic Marais says goodbye to Kfm

Popular 94.5 Kfm breakfast show host Nic Marais will be leaving the station at the end of June 2008. Marais, a bachelor's graduate of the University of Cape Town (UCT), plans to further his studies at a top US law school.

“After more than 10 years with the station I am ready for my next challenge. But leaving the team, both the dozen who build the show in studio and the million who join us every morning, is the toughest thing I've ever done,” explains Marais.

He says he is departing with only fond memories of the people he has worked with, the events he has been part of and the listeners he shared his mornings with.

94.5 Kfm station manager Colleen Louw says Marais leaves behind a legacy that will be hard to top.

“Nic has been an integral part of the team for many years. He will definitely be missed by all of us at Primedia, as well as by listeners across the Western Cape. It's his professionalism, caring nature and eagerness to always raise the bar that's made him so popular. We wish him only the best for the next leg of his journey,” says Louw.

Marais got his first taste for radio as an intern in the 94.5 Kfm newsroom at just 17. He started presenting sport bulletins on the station shortly after writing matric. A month after graduating from UCT, he began anchoring the station's breakfast show.

He has hosted the show for just over six years and in this time has helped grow it into allegedly the biggest and longest running breakfast show in the Western Cape's history.

Marais, a born-and-bred Capetonian, says Cape Town will always be his home.

“Leaving Cape Town is immensely difficult. I've no doubt I'll be back often but in the mean time, I'll seek out opportunities to continue being an ambassador for the city. My time at 94.5 Kfm has never been a task, always a privilege.”

Marais' last show will be on Friday 27 June. A replacement for the weekday 6am -9am breakfast show will be announced shortly.
