Jacaranda 94.2 makes ‘inroads' with pothole initiative
Issued by: Jacaranda 94.2

Community champion Jacaranda 94.2 has embarked on a proactive initiative, in a bid to alleviate the widespread problem of potholes. Dubbed the ‘Pothole Olympics', because of the ‘friendly competition' the initiative is intended to create between municipalities, the campaign has kicked off to an impressive start.

Just Plain Breakfast Show's Traffic Reporter Francois Du Toit says: “The Pothole Olympics initiative was launched on the 24th of March and to date, the Johannesburg Roads Agency has fixed potholes along Le Roux Avenue in Midrand and various intersections within the Tshwane Municipality.

“Jacaranda 94.2's main objective, is to work in conjunction with our listeners and their municipalities, identify where potholes are and have them fixed as soon as possible, effectively building better relationships between municipalities and their residents,” explains Du Toit.

Each day The Just Plain Breakfast show invites a spokesperson from a chosen local authority to get feedback on pothole problems from listeners in that particular area. The challenge is fixing the pothole as quickly as possible. This results in the municipality receiving a ranking on the pothole 'Olympics' scoreboard.

To date, the initiative has enjoyed an overwhelming response from various municipalities, from as far away as Nelspruit and Witbank, where pothole repairs have already commenced. Given the fact that local municipalities often bear the brunt of bad publicity, the initiative not only does away with that perception, it cements Jacaranda 94.2's commitment to fostering enhanced service delivery through the medium of radio.

The first round of the Pothole Olympics campaign is set to last until the end of April, with various rounds scheduled to run throughout the year. Jacaranda 94.2 is dedicated to ensuring it has ongoing impact within communities.
