A heady launch for ''Hair That Moves'' from The Event Production Company

Issued by: The Event Production Company
The Event Production Company turned up the beat for a fabulously funky Sunsilk launch at The Sandton Convention Centre on the evening of Sunday 19 February.
Some 1600 hairdressers from all over Gauteng arrived in colourful, glamorous droves to enjoy cocktails, and elegant dinner and vibey show featuring a line-up of some of SA's hottest talent - DJ Silly Bean, Unathi, Gift Gwe, Izinyoka, Mzekezeke and DJ Oksido got the party started immediately and kept it going all night.

"'The Hair That Moves' was an edgy launch party celebrating the client's partnership with the hairdressing fraternity, while revealing a revolutionary new product in Afro haircare," explains Karen Ashwin, The Event Production Company MD. "Under the guidance of our brilliant Creative Director Kurt Wustmann, we set out to create a fun, colourful and glamorous spectacle as a backdrop to the dramatic reveal which included giant inflatables, a drive-up on stage with local Afro-hairdressing guru Shaka, along with a hair and fashion show which was sexy and sophisticated."

With the AV and reveal complete, SA's trendiest hairdressers got down and partied with some of the country's top performers, muso's and personalities.

The client's colour scheme of dazzling oranges, purples, pinks and greens was pulled through to every aspect of the function, with inspired interpretations in table décor and the laserscape which opened the show. Dramatic strelitizias, pink proteas, dried roses, delicate rosebuds along with bright orange daisies and earthy place-settings featuring wood and acorns made for an interesting combination alongside fibre-optics, lava lamps, candles, glass and crystal. The fibre-optic lights on the tables were suggestive of punk rock mohican styling - an appropriately modern image of hair for an evening celebrating technological advances in haircare.

Technically, the production featured a set and stage of impressive proportions in terms of scale and size. Measuring some 60 metres across, the stage featured 250 metres of trussing (which formed part of the visible set), three 15 metre catwalks (which were removed to open up the dance floor), 20 screen images and 72 moving lights. What a show!

In spite of the all-star cast of entertainers, impressive technical touches and logistics (which included distributing 1600 trollies of hair care products to departing stylists), one of the coolest acts to attract attention were the gorgeous girls dancing in the showers in the reception area where guests enjoyed drinks before the show. Dressed in bright neon sports bikinis and tops and partly obscured by the opaque shower glass, the shapely models boogied to the thumping Afro-rhythms of DJ Silly Bean, Killamafra and Tumi. Plenty of cellphones were put to use by amused (mostly male) guests snapping away - an up-to-the-minute souvenir of a spectacular time!
