No more O for Thami Ngubeni

Thami Ngubeni will be moving on after completing a year as editor of O, The Oprah Magazine at the end of June 2008, South Africa, Associated Magazines announced today, Friday 11 April. Samantha Page takes over as acting editor.

“Thami has been a great editor and we are glad that her future plans will keep her in close touch with the magazine,” says Jane Raphaely, chairman of Associated Magazines and editor in chief of O.

Continues Raphaely, “Ngubeni tendered her resignation earlier this week. In her letter of resignation, she says: ‘As I come to my first anniversary at O magazine, I, myself, am being met with the challenge to live My Best Life.' Her future plans will enable her and the magazine to continue empowering the women of our nation and equipping them with the tools that will enable them to live their best lives.”

Ngubeni leaves behind a very strong team that has seen the magazine grow from strength to strength during the last year, despite increased competition in the inspirational magazine sector. O has had steady increases in circulation and advertising support, particularly from luxury brands. Recent retailing developments, such as Maponya Mall, in Soweto, have seen the magazines sales soar.

“Samantha Page will take over from Thami as acting editor,” says Vanessa Raphaely, editorial director of Associated Magazines, “and it will be business as usual in the magazine. We have some extraordinarily exciting plans for O magazine, editorially and promotionally. Magazines continue to be at the forefront of innovation and creative activity in the media and O with its unique formula and concepts, is a brand leader in its sector and always will be.”
