Thami Ngubeni for O editorship

Thami Ngubeni has been appointed as the new editor of O, The Oprah Magazine South Africa, published by Associated Magazines, effective 2 May 2007. Replacing Kgomotso Matsunyane, Ngubeni’s first issue will be the July 2007 one, which will be available on the newsstands on 20 June 2007.

“We are happy to have found a great new editor for O, The Oprah Magazine,” says Jane Raphaely, chairman of Associated Magazines.

“Thami is spiritual and spirited, and known for her integrity and inner strength. I am sure she will contribute greatly to the magazine and we are confident that it will go from strength to strength under her leadership.”

Ngubeni is the founder and MD of Thamzin Media, a company specialising in the creation and production of content for the TV, film, print and radio media. After seven years spent working for international media giant FremantleMedia as a writer and producer, she went on to produce the highly acclaimed The Apprentice: SA with Tokyo Sexwale for the SABC. In 2006, Ngubeni wrote and co-published her first book, My Sacred Spaces, with Penguin Books. She has a weekly spirituality show on Metro FM and previously also wrote a monthly column for True Love magazine.

Says Ngubeni, “My appointment as editor marks yet another turning point in my life, a continuation of my life’s journey towards our common pursuit of living our best lives. To say I am deliriously enchanted by the opportunity to work with Associated Magazines and Oprah, who is undoubtedly one of the world’s greatest humanitarians, would be an understatement.

“I look forward to putting together a page-turning magazine that will be a relevant and exciting lifestyle companion for those who yearn to suck the marrow out of life.”
