Online advertising is growing

Daniel Aufrichtig, from Bluesouth, a digital ad agency, said that media plans today are not complete without online being part of the strategy.

“Currently Internet users are in excess of 5.1 million and this is growing,” he said. “With this growth, the window of opportunity is currently wide open, and in terms of search engine optimisation, it is time to squeeze the most out of being a pioneer. Search engine optimisation is a long term strategy and companies should be investing in the SEO now before it becomes too competitive.

“The value of online is demonstrated in a campaign we did for the Department of Transport. They wanted to promote Car Free Day. We used an online competition to drive traffic to the site. Rich media was created around a competition inviting the public to submit photographs of themselves and the alternative transport they proposed using on Car Free Day. The rich media was then strategically placed at specific sites that enjoyed consistent daily traffic-news, finance, entertainment and communities. In addition, cell phone technology was used to get the public to send in their pictures via e-mail or SMS.

“During the two weeks of the campaign, the overall reach was more than two million impressions, which was effectively a 100% increase in visibility,” he concluded.
