Moneyweb has launched a number of podcasts with the aim of further-extending its information offering to its online community.
Users are able to listen to the podcasts (similar to audio bulletins) online at www.moneyweb.co.za. Readers are also able to subscribe to the syndication (RSS) feeds of the different podcasts so that the episodes are automatically downloaded to their computer when new ones are available.
The new service was launched over a month ago, and while the medium is new in South Africa, the leap in users and feedback clearly demonstrates the demand for this type of information.
“The global experience shows that podcasting has enormous potential as the world moves towards radio-on-demand. We see this as a critical part of our future strategy,” says Moneyweb's CEO, Alec Hogg.
Two market updates are published daily: one at 8am and another at lunchtime. The morning market report focuses on moves on international markets overnight as well as the top stories of the morning. The lunchtime market wrap features opinion from Moneyweb's market commentators as well as highlights of the morning's news.
Two additional weekly podcasts have also been introduced to cater for readers who require personal finance tips and information.
Every Tuesday, the Money Matters Podcast features discussion and expert opinion on a diverse range of personal finance-related affairs. Examples of topics covered include credit ratings, buying versus renting property as well as a look at investing for the long term.
The Tax Podcast is updated every Thursday and focuses solely on tax issues. Examples of focus areas include changes in tax legislation, filing of tax returns and VAT issues..
More weekly podcasts are planned focusing on a variety of topics, including retirement, property, politics and informal discussions with CEOs and newsmakers.
The website's podcast platform is also used to highlight special interviews, such as the recent hour-long discussion with well-known self-help author and motivational speaker Robert Kiyosaki.
