Careers SA 2008 is out! Published by CRF South Africa and partnered by industry giants PetroSA (Energy), AngloPlatinum (Mining) and Microsoft (ICTe), the 2008 edition bigger and better, filled with even more of the information graduates need to make informed career decisions when entering the job market.
The editorial focus for 2008 looks at the opportunities available to graduate talent in the critical skills shortage industries, as identified by the Joint Initiative for Priority Skills Acquisition (JIPSA), as well as how to prepare for interviews; gap years for graduates; managing finances and a review the BEST Employers™ in SA 2007.
The sector foci include Finance, sponsored by BEST Employer™ 2007 (#2): ABSA; Construction and Engineering, sponsored by Group Five; Energy (Petroleum), sponsored by SAPREF, as well as media and communications, information technology, retail, sport, education, healthcare and much more.
Each sector article aims to give graduates a good understanding of the different jobs available in the sector, the types of personalities that flourish, pro's and con's of working in the sector and the qualifications one needs to work in the industry.
The sector content for Careers SA was developed together with Career Planet - a mobile career discovery centre that brings together academia and industry in a unique partnership to drive and support access to career opportunities for South Africans of all ages. Under the stewardship of Karin Chisholm, Career Planet - a Section 21 company - is set to provide to provide cutting-edge career and skills development information with a strong focus on scarce and critical skills to their members nationally and internationally; and Careers SA is proud to work with them on this common goal.
Profiled Companies This year's edition showcases companies that span the various industry sectors. These companies are Absa, Alcatel-Lucent, Anglo Platinum, ArcelorMittal, Cell C, De Beers Consolidated Mines, East London IDZ, Edcon Group, Ernst & Young, Exxaro Resources, First National Bank, Grant Thornton, Group Five, Industrial Development Corporation, Impala Platinum, Liberty, Nedbank, Nike, Petro SA, Rainbow Farms, Rectron, SAB, SAPREF, SARS, Vodacom and Werksmans Attorneys. In addition, the Cape Peninsula University of Technology and the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University are the educational institutions showcased to students.

All companies showcasing their employer value proposition have their profiles hosted online for one year along with a link through to their own company website, while graduates from around the country and Internationally can access all the publication content online.
Careers SA on facebook In addition, Careers SA has started a dedicated facebook group for the publication where students are invited to post the work of which they are most proud i.e. their best essay on any topic, photographs, artwork, journalism pieces for radio, TV, online or print media, architechural designs - anything they'd like to showcase and share with share with potential employers. Distribution This, the 3rd edition of Careers SA, showcasing some 30 companies to graduates, was distributed to 20 University campuses from 14 to 20 April. Target campuses include: University of the Free State; University of KwaZulu Natal (Howard College and Westville); University of Pretoria; Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (Port Elizabeth and George); University of the Western Cape; University of Johannesburg; University of Witwatersrand; North West University (Potchefstroom and the Vaal Triangle); Rhodes University; Fort Hare University; Central University of Technology; Mangosuthu Technikon; Durban Institute of Technology; University of Cape Town; Cape Peninsula University of Technology and UNISA (Durban, Pretoria, Johannesburg and Cape Town).
A portion of publications is also distributed to all SA's Dinaledi Schools, thanks to Careers SA's partnership with the Department of Education, as well as all SETAs, the Umsobomvu Youth Fund, all FET colleges and to various other SA schools.
