Standard Bank shines in latest Trust Barometer results
Issued by: Ask Afrika

Standard Bank South Africa has been ranked first in this year's Ask Afrika Trust Barometer, narrowly beating last year's winner, SAB. Jacko Maree, Standard Bank CEO, was also elected best CEO overall.

SAB was followed by MTN, Anglo American, BHP Billiton and Bidvest. Together this group of six companies beat the survey average on overall reputation. In total 23 companies were selected as winners.

“What makes the Trust Barometer different from other trust surveys is the focus on corporates rather than consumers,” says Sarina de Beer, Director at Ask Afrika.

The survey was conducted amongst CEO's and executives from JSE listed companies. In the first stage, each respondent selected the top three companies they considered to have the best reputations. In the second stage each respondent rated these three companies on 11 dimensions related to reputation.

This resulted in executives rating different sets of companies, but had the advantage that they were rating companies they knew well. These ratings were averaged and weighted by number of mentions. Additionally 9 dimensions of trust were measured, as trust is closely related to reputation. Standard Bank also won on the trust measure.

The results of this survey will, as in previous years, be published in Finweek on the 7th of August. The Star, Pretoria News, Cape Times and Mercury will also run the survey results on the 14th of August.

The Ask Afrika Trust Barometer 2008 Conference will occur soon after, on the 8th of August in Johannesburg. It is sponsored by Finweek, and attendance is by invitation only. A number of case studies will be presented by winning companies, providing valuable insight into how to improve company trust and company reputation.

“As with the Ask Afrika Orange Index we expect this event to be another success in terms of the value of insights delivered to attendees,” says Ask Afrika Director, Sarina de Beer.
